The beginnings of a larger exploration into the world of Medieval Pottery
Cauldrons have a long history of use in the historical world, and they have been capturing imaginations for centuries with their associations to witchcraft, magic and medicine. A cauldron must have a rounded base with three legs. This is for stability amongst the coals and allows for the even spreading of heat.
These cauldrons are an exploration aesthetics with no two being the same as I experiment with different sizes, handle shapes, and leg configurations.
I have chosen to use commercial glazes, that mimic iron-heavy reduction techniques, to ensure these vessels are food safe and can be used to cook anything from soup to soap to spells.
