Ceramic Portfolio

As a potter I make functional and aesthetic ware that explores the possibilities of form and glaze.

As an artist I use historical, personal and cultural stories to contextualise the contemporary issues addressed in my work. I use ceramic to create tangible objects out of intangible ideas.

As a florist my connection to flowers colours the pieces I create. There is a deep relationship between ceramics and the world of flowers and I like to use my unique position to explore their symbiosis.

I draw from these three worlds when I make, producing work that explores their interaction and references their joint histories.

Stobie Pole Project 2024

Made as part of Helpmann Academy’s 2024 Stobie Pole Project these works were produced to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the iconic South Australian Stobie Pole.

This work is reflective of its local environment and invites plant life into spaces where there previously was none, which fosters community and enhances the surrounding area.

Locally sourced clay and native plants were used to further connect the work to the place in which it was created and is displayed.

Place and Replace

Place and Replace is an exploration of the relationship between Korean and Japanese ceramics shown by placing vessels inspired by traditional Korean Onggi alongside tea bowls inspired by Japanese practise.

There is a specific focus on how place influences the making of an object and as such these pots are reflective the environment around them. The clay and some of the glaze materials have been produced from South Australian soil. The leaves used for masking have been sourced from introduced but thriving species, indicative of the suburban floriculture in Adelaide where I live.

Embiggening

Embiggening is the results of a technical exploration into the techniques and methods used to create large ceramic vessels. Coil and throw, as well as sectional throwing techniques were employed to create classically beautiful vessels scaled according to the golden ratio.

Alongside this was the development of a high-fired soft pink glaze that can be used for vitrified stoneware ceramics.

Other Works

Smaller projects and works created as I explore the expansive world of ceramics.
